click to download brochure

Jointly sponsored by HTRS and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine/Office of Continuing Medical Education.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

As the co-chairs of the third annual HTRS meeting, it is our pleasure to the present to the membership our meeting schedule of sessions/topics and participants. Each of these sessions will be chaired by a prominent clinical researcher in that respective field with the charge to first give an overview of the outstanding issues in that area followed by several state of the art presentations highlighting on-going research followed by a question and answer session to stimulate further discussion regarding present and future clinical care and research opportunities that hopefully can be carried out in part through the HTRS membership. We believe that the session topics reflect the "cutting edge" of active areas of clinical research (e.g. arterial pathophysiology, platelet profiling, venous thrombosis) and controversy. The latter includes debates on the mode of delivery of hemophilia carriers, the management of an acute bleed in an inhibitor patient and the use of recombinant VIIa versus prothrombin complex concentrate in Coumadin-induced coagulopathy.

We believe this schedule provides ample time for discussion, networking, and "free" lunch times, as requested in last year's attendee post-meeting survey. Consequently, we have four Mini-symposia (vs. 5 last year), but an expanded and new "Presidential Symposium," which includes the presentation of two lifetime achievement awards with a review of the awardees' mentoring and scientific accomplishments, plus four abstract presenters (abstract deadline 2/15/07). The abstract submission is open to a trainee or junior faculty within 5 years from the end of fellowship. There will also be poster sessions to stimulate further discussion and collaboration. We believe these reserved oral and poster presentations are an essential part of the HTRS mission to foster productive clinical scholarship among junior members. Furthermore, in that spirit of mentoring, we are introducing this year a breakfast session for trainees and junior faculty in interacting with senior HTRS members regarding the "nuts and bolts" of the process of succeeding in the academic field of thrombosis and hemostasis.

We hope you will join us for this undoubtedly to be productive and stimulating meeting.

Jorge Di Paola MD, Eric Grabowski MD ScD
