Kit for the assay of hirudin in plasma; contains highly purified human thrombin (same quality as DiaPharma Thrombin), and purified human fibrinogen, very stable. The assay allows to measure hirudin by its direct antithrombin activity. It is insensitive to the prothrombin and fibrinogen concentrations in the tested patient plasma sample. According to the hirudin posology used and the patient's clinical context (antithrombin therapy, substitutive anticoagulant in presence of HIT or extra-corporeal circulation), the assay works with undiluted or diluted plasma.

Hirudin is tested by its inhibitory activity to highly purified human thrombin, in the a form, and determination of the thrombin time using a normal pooled human plasma as substrate.
